The Slovak-Croatian Commission held its first meeting on 18-19 June 2019, at the Comenius University in Bratislava, where the conference “The Slovaks and Croats on their Way to Independence: History and Perspectives” was held. The chairpersons of the Slovak and Croatian sections of the Commission signed the Statute of the Commission. The members of the Commission agreed on the interest in the joint activities concerning the Slovak and Croatian view of Central Europe. The second Commission meeting was organized online, on 18 September 2020. It was impossible to organize its meeting and conference that was scheduled to take place in Zadar in April 2020 due to the situation with Covid-19, but the first volume of the publication Studia Carpathico-Adriatica was printed in Bratislava.
On 18 June 2021 the Commission organized the conference “Intellectual Connections between Croatia and Slovakia”, held at the University of Zadar. The Commission evaluated their Facebook profile and analysed the feedback from the wider public. The next Commission meeting was organized on 15-18 June 2022, including the conference “From the Carpatnians to the Adriatic: The Archaeology of the Migration Period and the Middle Ages”, at the University of Trnava. The Commission emphasized the need for an intensified cooperation with the lectorate of the Slovak language and culture in Zagreb and the lectorate of the Croatian language and culture in Bratislava concerning the promotion of the work and results of the Commission’s activities as well as the activities of both lectorates. On 15 June 2023 the Commission organized the conference “The Heritage of Important Slovak and Croatian Latinists”, held at the University of Osijek. The Commission confirmed that the aim of the Studia Carpathico-Adriatica will be to enter important databases, such as Web of Science, Scopus or Current Contents.
The next Commission meeting, including the conference “Art and Identities”, was organized on 12-15 June 2024 in Košice. The Commission discussed the plan to initiate the preparation of a Slovak-Croatian anthology of the most important neo-Latin texts. On 12 June 2025 the Commission organized the conference “Intellectual Encounters from an Ethnological Perspective”, held in Rijeka. The Commission has evaluated the first version of its website, appointing Martin Homza as webmaster for the Slovak side and Željko Holjevac for the Croatian side. As the first step towards achieving its long-term goals, holding interdisciplinary conferences and publishing the Slovak-Croatian series of collaborative volumes in the history and culture of the Carpathian-Adriatic region, the Commission started to work on the preparation of the first volume of the joint history of the mentioned region from Roman times to the end of the 11th century.
